Do people have energy? Well, I know I don’t have enough of it. Also, I know I need to better regulate it. Way back last weekend…
Geesh, we should not think a few days ago is a distant memory, but with all that has happened this week, last Friday and Saturday seem like ages ago.
Anyway… way back last weekend I was in energetic and social mode while I was at a conference. When I am home in my cave I am usually in focus mode, which means I am expending just as much energy, but through different channels. In my world focus and social just do not co-exist. I am a bit envious of people for whom modes of being can co-exist, or alternate in rapid succession. This lack of talent, or at least practice, in switching interactional styles illustrates the different types and levels of energy I use in interacting with the world. It took me a while to switch off the “project energy and be vivacious” mode I was in for the conference. I was exuding lot of externally focused energy when I returned home.
Rather than transition back into my calm writerly self, on my return home on Sunday, I was immediately hit with the news my daughter had been T-boned in an intersection by an unlicensed driver in Bloomington, Minnesota and unsure of how she was, whether her car was totaled, and how she and her guy would survive this financially. There had been a death in his family the previous week and one of their dogs had torn an ACL that week also.
Then Monday the Boston Marathon bombings happened. I’m a very politically-oriented person and once something that impacts the overall political zeitgeist in the country happens, I can’t shut it out. Simply put, I was wrapped really tightly until yesterday when I was able to release much of my anger and energy over the injustice of the world in my ranty blog post about stupid people, guns, and chicken shit actions on Capitol Hill and women who think they cannot change things.
Was this a misalignment of my Qi, or Ch’i, if you prefer? At one level, yes. There are many levels of life, biological organization, and physical organization, and I would be remiss and rather narrow-minded if I didn’t believe there are all types of human energy, electro-chemical, and perhaps beyond.
I will spend some time appreciating qi through recognizing it when I can. Vibes, feng shui, chemistry, call it what you will in whatever form you recognize it in, there is a certain something that many of us recognize as an unquantified life force and flow.
Do you think there is an energy or life force?
