There is a tendency for people to think that everyone else knows what they know. In this day where information is but a click away, it is even easier than it once was to think that what we know and think is ubiquitous.
The word Über in German means above. In contemporary parlance it also has come to take on the meaning of best. Ubiquity is an ever-present, completely diffused existence of something. Instantaneous access to global communication via satellites illustrates an Über ubiquity.
But even as overarching sameness envelops the public face of American byways and small town commerce with corporate skins, individuals ink their skins to make personal, unique, and indelible statements.
At the same time we reach out and connect around the globe, our individual stories are more important than ever. We cannot find patterns and trends, nor recognize emergent ways individuals are finding to navigate increasingly complex situations facing the world today without the individuals whose behaviors comprise the patterns and trends.
This is all very promising. We are facing challenges unlike anything humans have faced for millennia, if ever. Contemporary women can shape a positive, collective response drawing upon integrated thought that includes information from spheres of knowledge often omitted from official governmental or political actions intended to “deal with problems.” This could save us.
Über ubiquity does not imply uniformity. (Can you tell today is the letter “U” in the A to Z Blogging Challenge?) Awareness that other options are available, even if that option is not one exercised in a community, could increase difference and diversity. Those things are good things in times of change under stress. A new response might be an advantageous one. A success can be communicated far and wide in no time flat.
Yes, inclusive women’s thought applied to challenging emergent situations could create novel and appropriate responses. Communication is a good thing. Wide spread and inclusive communication between women is Über cool.
It’s time for a progressive woman as president of the United States.
Have anyone in mind?
I heartily agree that our individual stories are more important than ever and should be told one by one.,
We need to tell them even if we think no one is listening.
Searching for new, out-of-the-box solutions to problems drives innovation. Your post is uber-interesting.
Innovation über alles!
I am all about individual stories — that’s what makes our world so interesting. And I’m now trying to figure out how the word Uber relates to the car service!
I know. How did they choose that name?
It is uber interesting to find that the more the world progresses the more women need to do their multitasking efforts from seats of distinction in Washington. Where we make an effort to make positive change on many issues because, as women, we have the ability and know-how to handle many tasks well at the same time. Interested in the job?
Nope, not interested, but I would if I could. But we do have to keep encouraging our sisters to do all we can.
Our individual and collective voices need to be heard acres the globe. On another note, I think you did a great job with this A-Z challenge. “U” is an interesting but difficult letter. Can’t wait to see what you do with “X” and ‘Z”.
Thank you for your encouragement! I can’t wait to see what I do either.
