A TO Z, A to Z of 2024, Autoethnography, Permission to write / April 19, 2024 by womenslegacy / 4 Comments

It is over half way through this A to Z Challenge month. Review is always good in a long or complicated process. Sometimes you need a reminder. For me writing something coherent every day can be a challenge. I really do try. In this particular challenge I am creating prompts which are not predictable or prompts that slide into an established prompt but one from a novel perspective.

I love using the reframing technique I’m discussing this month, but is it easy to venture off your main subject path as you explore new vistas that can be distracting. There is absolutely nothing wrong with typical prompts.. We all have typical aspects of our lives which can be mined for memoir topics in traditional ways. Ten traditional prompt topics are listed below each area with three memoir activities to react to for that part of life.

By reviewing the basic elements of memoir prompts we can reorient ourselves back to the essential things we want to convey,

  1. Early Years:
    • Describe your childhood home and the neighborhood you grew up in.

  5. Challenges and Triumphs:
    • Reflect on a difficult period in your life and how you overcame it.
    • Share a personal triumph or accomplishment that you’re proud of.
    • Discuss any life lessons learned from facing adversity.
  6. Hobbies and Interests:
    • Describe your favorite hobbies and how they have evolved over time.
    • Share a specific passion that has brought you joy.
    • Reflect on any creative pursuits or talents you developed.
  7. Technology and Changes:
    • Discuss how technology has changed during your lifetime.
    • Share memories of significant historical events and their impact on you.

I’ve done most of these prompts. Very helpful in focusing me on topics I might have skipped.

Argh those missing topics! Errors of omission are always the most difficult to find.
