I have to cover this topic. It is taking up so much of my mind-space, and heart-space. Judges are supposed to interpret the law, not legislate, and not spread their own beliefs.
What the hell is wrong with our culture, our U.S. culture, that we are allowing the destruction of the our beautiful experiment in democracy?
Many people think that Citizens United was the ruling that killed democracy, but there has been an effort to take what little power the people had away from them since our Union was founded. I wholeheartedly encourage all of us to familiarize ourselves with the women, money and democracy work of the Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom in the U.S. and internationally. Corporations have been slowly inching their way toward more and more influence over government. The Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment is what gave corporations personhood. Then when Citizens United gave certain legal entities the power to use untraceable money in funding elections, the death of democracy began for real.
Then, when liars began to be given free reign on the national stage, and this practice crept into the courts, agendas, especially religious ones began to poison our separation of church and state.
We have several Supreme Court Justices who lied in order to be confirmed.
The spread of Christian Nationalism has reached the Courts. The taking away of already established rights is antithetical to the essence of what the U.S. was founded upon.
So they stacked the court. Then they overturned Roe. They are trying to return women to being owned by men. Skin colors that do not meet with their definition of what a full citizen should be are being attacked.
Why no one is screaming that the courts cannot practice medicine, I simply cannot understand. But the DOJ has forwarded that the plaintiffs in these cases lack standing. And the very nature of science and our protection of our citizenry’s health is being argued for by pharmaceutical manufacturing companies.
The corporations thought they had won, but they did not see the religious judges, just like in the Old Testament, coming for them after the rabble is defanged.
I am very concerned, and I am afraid we are already in a civil war.
