For the past year I have been a bit sporadic in my posting. Hey, life happens.
Sabbatical
I’m just going to skip over why my sabbatical was needed and how the past year has been spent. I’ve written about these things on this site, when I did manage to post. But I accomplished tons. I recommend sabbaticals; women, like the land, need rest. (See Leviticus 25:2-7 for how the term was originally used).
Elderwoman
I’m alive, well, and doing alright for a woman in her early 60s. I’m currently using this term, elderwoman, as one single word, rather than crone, old woman, elderly, or senior to describe myself, and I encourage you to use it too. I like elderwoman as it reminds me of Elderberry. I am fond of all things elderberry. A Celtic rhyme supports my fondness:
Elder be ye Lady’s tree, burn it not, or cursed ye’ll be.

Dreams and the Media
I’ve been having absolutely cinema-esque dreams about levels of reality, alternate time lines, and breaking barriers between those worlds. That could be because the Hubster and I have been watching the last season of The Man in the High Castle which is available on Amazon Prime TV (and which I highly recommend), or because I feel like I have been living in an alternate universe for the last three years.
Legacy not Politics
No matter how we got here, and I do not want to fight about this, or even discuss it. We are here and we women are going to have to straighten out the mess that is our world. This must be our legacy.
Let’s figure out how to do this together. First, I think we need to define and parse “this” in a way that can be actionable:
Address the Mess
- address global warming/climate change
- dismantle fundamentalist and patriarchal attacks on the rights of women (and families)
- stop the escalation of violence, physical and verbal, by nations, groups, individuals
- redistribute the excessive wealth of corporations and oligarchic families
- feed, clothe, heal, and educate all people
2020, Year of Action
Now… let’s ruminate for a few days. Draw inspiration from the women who are leading the resistance the world around. Then we have to go full tilt boogey on action in 2020. (Just take a few days off before then to breathe, love, and re-energize over the next few weeks.) Let’s show the world what we can do in the 100th anniversary year of women in the U.S.A. gaining the right to vote.
Speak Up
I would love to hear how you are “addressing the mess.” Tell me in the comments!
