UN International Peace Day is observed every September 21st per per a United Nations.  In 1981, the United Nations General Assembly, by unanimous vote, adopted Resolution 36/67 establishing the International Day of Peace.  In 2002 the UN General Assembly officially declared September 21 as the permanent annual date for the International Day of Peace.

A simple Facebook invitation was sent to me a couple of weeks ago, to attend a peace gathering today.

At this time of turmoil, please join us (and people everywhere) to dance, chant, meditate, drum, pray, as we send high vibration peace blessings across the globe.

I first learned of International Peace Day only within the last 10 years.  I’m not sure whether it was through working with CODEPINK or through the peace network in Second Life®.  In any case I have come recently to observation of the day.  Sometimes it is just a prayer and other times there is celebration, while still other times there is a spiritual ritual.  My cave and I have become inseparable.  Since peace is a type of interaction as well as a state of mind, I need to interact to be peaceful and contribute to a state of peace.  I drove out to Oro Valley at a friend’s house and met with friends and friends of friends for music, prayer, song and dance.  It was more New Age than many might have liked, but I found it very respectful, open, and peaceful.
I think we need to have a day every week dedicated to peace.  Once a year just is not enough.  Isn’t that what church and community gatherings were originally about?  Love and peace.
My current sadness and grieving for Daisy has colored my perspective, but today helped.
I found a lovely reminder stated as simply as anyone could ever want about levels of peace by Eugene Clark:

Peace is not just something that occurs among nations, but also within countries, within families and between individuals.

If you were going to observe and International Day of Peace, how would you do it?
