I first visited Tucson in October. It was a gorgeous autumn. Warm, but not too warm. Sunny, but with the long, slanted light of fall, not the pounding sun of summer. I had visited the Flagstaff and Prescott areas previously, and that was fun, but I felt at home here in Tucson. I moved here permanently a few months later.

It is 25 years later, well, almost. I stepped off of the train on October 2nd in 1988, so tomorrow it will be 25 years.
Fall isn’t my favorite season. I have always been in love with the wet springs of northeastern Indiana, but I do love fall in Southern Arizona. This month the NaBloPoMo theme on BlogHer is Fall, so how can I not participate?
I fell a couple posts short, three actually, of blogging every day in September for NaBloPoMo. I just didn’t factor in a pet death and grieving into September’s NaBloPoMo schedule? Who can prepare for such things? But this month, I will try one more time.
This is the first post with the Fall theme, but on Tuesdays I promote Tucson Tuesday because community and local business are essential infrastructure. So I am combining themes today. I have a feeling I will do lots of combination posts this month. My parents both had birthdays in October. My best friend from my teen years had her birthday on Halloween. Many other significant people from various points in my life have October birthdays. I also often fall into severe depression in October. I don’t think that is happening this year though. A few years ago I figured out what October meant to me as a kid, and once I got that connection out to a conscious level, it has been easier to deal with emotions linked to autumn.
This month will be an interesting journey for me because this will be the first time I consciously acknowledge all the October or autumn associated baggage accumulated over the years.
