Assessing the Mess

Time escalates at an alarming rate as I pass through life.  I am already planning on responding to Nablopomo comments and such during lunch tomorrow so I can have the evening to clean the house before I have laser eye surgery on Tuesday.

I don’t know how I used to do the 8-5, raise a kid, help the hubby at his work, take care of the house, be a girl scout leader and remember to buy milk.  Oh that is right, I had a breakdown, duh.    Seriously, how did I once juggle everything?

My house is a pit.  My washer is broken and I have purchased a new one but I can’t figure out when I can get delivery and a plumber and me all at home at the same time.  I’m not sure if it is the stress or the dirt but I’ve started itching.

This is what I felt like when I had hives.

This is what I felt like when I had hives.

Seriously, I broke out in hives about a week ago” all over my body,” as Jonathan Winters used to say, and I still itch a bit.  I think it was from the detergent the laundry used because we sent out all our clothes, since the washer is broken.  But the hives could have been because of stress and anticipation of the surgery on my freaking EYES that I will have this coming Tuesday.  Anyway, I have never had hives previously, but I had hundreds and hundreds of not so little lumps and made up for all those years without them I lived on Benadryl for much of the last week.

For those of you who follow along with my wacka wacka life I was diagnosed with narrow angle glaucoma right after my brother recovered from being in hospice.  Just read my posts from September if you want to ride along on that roller coaster.  But anyway… I was totally taken by surprise when I went in to get an eye exam and a couple new pairs of glasses after I found out I didn’t have to save for a bereavement flight and the really nice doctor of  optometry said I needed to see an opthalmologist asap.  I did, and I have very little drainage from inside my eyeballs, and if my pupils dilate too much  apparently pressure could build up really quickly, damage my optic nerve, and my eyeballs could explode.  Actually I made up that last part.  But, anyway. there is a more than insignificant chance that I could experience sudden high eyeball pressure and lose some of my sight.  lasers-495751_640
Writer.  Sight.  Hmmm.   So I’m letting them drill teeny weeny holes in my irises with lasers on Tuesday.  I was disheartened when I found out I have the type of glaucoma that medicinal marijuana doesn’t really help.  I don’t smoke, but you know I came so close to actually being eligible for a legit prescription.
Just so I don’t give myself time to freak out about any of this… I’m doing NaBloPoMo.  This is day three of posting every frigging day this month.
Oh, and just in case you are wondering.  I voted early since my surgery is on Tuesday.    I’m still trying to figure out how to do the often part of the “vote early and often” phrase that I grew up with in northern Indiana (near Chicago, the home of the saying.)
So how is your November stacking up?

Oh yes I can relate to your post. Good luck with your surgery on Tuesday. I had laser surgery for cataracts 3 years ago and I know the anxiety you are feeling but it will be fine, and quick.
I am enjoying your blog. NaBloPoMo is great for finding new kindred bloggers, isn’t it?

Yes, it is wonderful for finding kindred spirits. (Always loved Anne of Green Gables and her over the top kindredness.)

Wow. You do have a lot going on. I am glad your visit for new glasses allowed your condition to be diagnosed earlier rather than later. I hope that everything goes smoothly with your procedure. Love and light to you.

A patriotic writer with eyes problems and anxiety. I am all of those things, minus the surgery. I feel for you, but you are so strong that I know all will be fine with you, your eyes and your work. You know what? These surgeons has done these surgeries a zillion times. Your will be the successful one zillion and one!

    Hi Nancy,
Can relate. Happy about your brother but sorry about the glaucoma. Scary. Had eye surgery a few weeks ago on my right eye and on Wednesday they will do the left. Was terrified too because you know, it’s my EYES. Didn’t mind my hearing fading or losing my teeth, but my EYES. Anyway, they actually put in a new lens. It wasn’t so bad, except I hate eyedrops and insurance didn’t cover it because you know, seeing is a luxury – and it was expensive. Medicare does cover cataracts and I’m sure Glaucoma. I do like seeing bright colors again. Laser surgery (like yours) and tiny little knife surgery (like mine) are modern miracles. Anyway good luck tomorrow – sending Love and Light your way. And thanks for posting about NoBloPoMo Hugs

Robin had cataract surgery at age 40. Chemical accident in grad school caused it. So I know I will survive. And yes… my EYES. Big deal. Good luck on your Weds surgery. You are wonderful now, but you will be even better when both of your eyes are repaired!

Good luck. Might you not need glasses now or is that just with cataract surgery? Looking for a bright spot, not too bright though because of your eye surgery.November starts our busy, busy busy season. I look forward to it all year!

I will still need glasses. This will take care of sudden pressure spikes that could be damaging, but presbyopia and astigmatism will still be there. Good thought though.

Well, my November seems to be stacking up a little better than yours. For example, I think I finally caught the mouse that has been living under my fridge for quite a while now. So, that’s a good thing. As far as the cleaning thing goes, I hear ya!
Good luck with your eye surgery!

I remember being invaded by rodents when it got cold in the midwest. But my doberman turned out to be a really good mouser after he figured out that the little suckers were eating his food!

Nancy, that sounds so scary. I hate that you have to go through that surgery… I will be thinking of you tomorrow and hoping everything goes well! As for the hives, I can relate…that is always how my body manifests stress. It ebbs and flows. And my need for Claritin does the same. Good luck with everything and I hope the hives stay away.

I think it is more weird than scary. But it does make me a bit squeamish. It is much less invasive than cataract surgery and that is getting downright routine. Thanks for the thoughts!

I am with you – when life ramps up, find distractions! I will be sending you healing thoughts tomorrow (just in case that helps at all) and am sooooo incredibly glad that you voted. I know you live in one of those states where your voice and vote is critical. And yes, I am saying that because we are political twins :)!
