What is the Women’s Legacy Project all about?
WLP exists to help women express themselves, optimally use their voices, and share the unique knowledge that can only be gathered and given by individual women.
For individual women to start that sharing process can require encouragement, validation, inspiration, technological know-how, examples, and community. We will provide as many of these infrastructural elements as is possible.
WLP is about getting the knowledge wisdom and voices of as many women as is possible out into in the global information system that is accessible through the worldwide web. We do not aim to have the information be published us, although in the future we may be able to facilitate the publishing process. We just want to help as many women self-publish, post, or create representations of their knowledge as is humanly possible.
Why are you doing this?
Ulterior motives? Yes. But we gladly admit them. We hope to have a larger corpus of women’s information upon which we can build in the future. We want the data that informs decisions to be balanced and accurately reflect the makeup of the world. We not only want to bring women into the forefront of decision making practices, we want to bring women into the equations and data sets referred to in decision-making. We want to experience the synergy of a world in which whole ranges of information are not excluded. This is our small part of creating a better world. (Note: This last point is much more important and bigger than it might at first seem.)
Where is this going?
WLP is more than a blog and more than a business venture. It is similar to a how-to book or magazine, reference work, digital crafting guide and a host of other functions all tied up into one.
- There is a blog.
- There are ebooks in the works.
- There will be print books and workbooks.
- Membership will be introduced soon and members will have access to podcasts, webinars, and trouble-shooting forums.
- Speaking engagements with WLP’s Founder, Nancy, may also be booked.
Who is behind the Women’s Legacy Project?
The Women’s Legacy Project is the brainchild of the owner of Hill Research Services, Nancy Hill. She is an MS Anthropologist with a specialization in semiotics or how meaning is created. In her own words,
I love information, writing, words, and how these all work together to create something greater than all the parts when put together. After graduate school, and years of working in libraries and museums I decided to become an independent scholar and freelance writer when my gregarious daughter was around age 9 and I realized that some kids need us parents more in the pre-teen and teen years than when they are little.
At this point I began to realize that women have always had to juggle work and children or family and that as the world shifted from an age of industry to information, women were taking on these same roles at a higher level. Information and communication within and about the family and community have always been the domain of women.
I formally started Hill Research Services after my daughter moved on to establish her adult professional life. After many small projects and test cases, I decided that my interests, training and knowledge all came together under a simple rubric of advancing and preserving women’s culture in ways never before possible until the technology of instantaneous global communication developed.
