More smoke and mirrors. Distraction, distraction, distraction.
It is never necessary, acceptable, or tolerable for the person filling the office of the President to break the law. The American public was reminded of that point by the impeachment of Clinton. It is a new day. Bush lied under oath. Broken law. Impeachment.
Simple. There are now admitted grounds for impeachment of Bush. What he and his administration are attempting to do with today’s “amazing” revelation (at least that is how the media is spinning it) that Bush authorized domestic spying is to control the discourse, the media coverage, and the perception of the reality surrounding that admission.
There are several problems with this: the President cannot make laws — the separation of powers of the three branches of the government was established to prevent the persons who would fill the Office of the President from creating dictatorial, nonracial, or other tyrannical powers once in office. This is what Bush has done. He and his oligarchical cronies have flagrantly held themselves above the law time and time again. They have shown a basic lack of respect for the essence of what made America a place to which people from all over the world came to experience freedom. For Bush and his buddies need to be removed from office as soon as is humanly possible. They are destroying America.
Congress now needs to fulfill their highest duty and check the improper assumption of power by another branch of government. The Senate took the first steps toward that necessary show of difficult moral strength this week by preventing reauthorization of the Patriot Act in its entirety.
