Love and Light

Some of my über christian friends (I’m unitarian universalist – make of it what you will) send “thoughts and prayers”. I also wonder what it means exactly when a response to something is just the one word reply, “praying.”

As I said in Interludes and Intercessions a couple days ago, prayer for me is not asking for anything, not even for others, it is simply connecting with the good, the light in the universe, that has taken many forms over the vast distances of time and space. I close my eyes, extend my palms upward and outward if I can do so without being conspicuous, all that early training about not proselytizing, is still very much a part of me.

When I say sending love and light, I mean it. I visualize the person or situation bathed in radiance and love. Sometimes I can actually feel the Chi flowing. Some of us are better at using energy than others. Respected medical institutions are coming around to including energetic concerns in health and wellness.

Conceptualization of Chi, Qi, or Energy

Please do not disparage anyone’s beliefs, even in your thoughts. Thoughts are powerful.

Our words are certainly one of the clearest ways to share what we think and feel. I try to be honest with my words, and I try not to appropriate others’ belief systems by using their phraseology that may mean something specific that I may not comprehend or be aware. I love the phrase, “may their memory be a blessing.” but I feel uncomfortable using the phrase as I feel like I am appropriating a Jewish tradition. Discomfort can come through, so I don’t do it.

I would like to think that people receive with the same intention in which something is given. But I know this is not always the case. Sometimes I swear I can hear eye-rolls on Facebook when I send someone love and light per a tough situation as I know that other people will see my sending love and light as woo-woo or even worse as insincere.

Quantum entanglement (quantum correlation). 3d illustration

I am sincere. I do send love and light. They are real, and so is quantum entanglement but we do not understand it. So I guess you could say, “I believe in science and love.” I love it when things can be verified through repetition, as that is the heart of science. But I also love the unknown and thinking about what we do not yet know.

I guess some people just have a much higher tolerance of questions, uncertainty, and for not needing to be right.

I’m glad that as you said, ‘Respected medical institutions are coming around to including energetic concerns in health and wellness.’ Like you, I believe in the power of sending love and light.

More and more of us are looking to heal our, and the world’s wounds, not just treat them. With love and light.

I’m sending love and light to the people of Ukraine all the time. If enough of us do that, who knows what can happen? I believe in the healing power of energy.

Jesus came to give Love and Light. He literally said let there be light at the creation of the world and He also came known as a man as the light of the world for all to see. When I say praying I mean I am talking with God usually in the context of whatever need I just heard about. But presenting my needs to God (which is a biblical command) is only part of prayer.

You have a more literal relationship with God than I do. I am happy you found a way to connect.

We all have our different ways of connecting to the energy of the Universe, be it belief in a Supreme Being (or beings) or some other belief, and all such pathways deserve to be honored. In my particular tradition, I am Jewish, although I am not religious within the Jewish tradition. In my particular case, “may a person’s memory be for a blessing” does hold a lot of meaning for me. Someone who knew a person bears memories of them and their good works. We are commanded to leave the world a better place than it was when we entered it. We have the concept of tikkun olam, where we are asked to “mend the world” Remembering and honoring memories of a person who has traveled onward to wherever we go next is part of that mending/repair work. I am intrigued by “love and light” also. I agree there are many things about the universe we live in that we don’t understand, and there are many ways to undertake the work of making this world a better place.

Alana, May her memory be a blessing is such a lovely sentiment and it is the place we want to arrive at in grief. If only we could all start doing good things again. It might help.

Thank you for the link to Quantum entanglement. I probably don’t understand it all, but the idea is intriguing.
