The title of this post was supposed to be “Free to Be a Fool A to Z” but strike-throughs are not allowed in titles in one of the site constraints I have to go along with, unless I want to learn to code, and I’ve been busy trying not to code since 1976. I am uncertain whether the constraint is coming from the WordPress platform, the framework, or the theme.
When APRIL 1 was the theme for today and my ATTENTION had not yet been diverted, I intended to create an aperçu about how April 1st has come to mean the first day of the A-to-Z Blog Challenge month and not a day for trickery. But I didn’t.
So what is the A-to-Z Challenge? See this 2015 post, or go to the main site for the A to Z Challenge to find out more.
I am still trying to conceptualize the fine-grained focus for this site’s A to Z of Women’s Legacy. For clarity’s sake I cannot call it the same thing as two years ago or last year, so the theme cannot be A to Z of Women’s Legacy and neither can it be Legacy Tools. I am probably writing within the topic of Women’s Wisdom for this year’s A to Z Challenge.
Women’s Wisdom
I am in my 60th year and will begin to wear the label, 60, for a year beginning on my birthday this May, next month. I have been contemplating what this zero year birthday will mean. I am no longer a young woman. I certainly do not feel old, but I could join a council of elders. Achieving that status does not mean that human challenges disappear, the accumulation of wisdom does not necessarily mean being lifted from mazes and maelstroms.
Recently I have been spinning my wheels, I’m stuck, I’m on alert, and I am unable to move forward, as I feel I should constantly look around to protect myself and those I love from a dread I feel about a danger I cannot define.
It is rather difficult to progress toward my goals when I feel as though I am mired in muck, and sinking further in. The saddest part of this situation is that people I have valued as friends and confidants for years, sometimes decades, are unaware they have been sucked down into the mire and are about to go under.
I do not want to say more than that on this blog on this website. As editor and publisher of WLP, I have tried to skirt the edges of politics up until today. I have realized that I do not have the massive amounts of energy required to enforce a neutral, if not objective, perspective of the site. Nor can I devote as much time to editing my own words to filter out personal opinions, including my own, to the detriment of publishing anything at all, as I been doing lately.
So, the blog will become more personal, and a focus on women and government will join several other primary topics, for the site. WLP is not becoming a partisan site. There simply will be more emphasis on the Gaian, integrated, open systems perspective that informed the guiding philosophy of this site as it was created, and with which the world can heal itself if we allow it to heal.
Such healing only occurs if a new balance is reached, and that is only likely to happen when women step forward, claim an equitable share of all critical cultural processes, and bring women’s ways of knowing and doing to the forefront of policy and public life while honoring all that this builds upon.
So let us get started on an April exploration of women’s wisdom.
